| The OFFSTAGE Theatre Group needs you help to secure more ISIRTAA! |
more from same (The Goodies) |
From the fundraising page...
We are The OFFSTAGE Theatre Group and have been running from our base in Gloucestershire since 1991. We've won the odd award, toured the 'classics' and premiered a lot of original work, all of which has been highly-acclaimed.
In 2016, we performed a 'Greatest Hits' version of the classic BBC Radio comedy I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again, after being given the exclusive licence to do so. This was a one-off production for charity.
In 2017, we took a revamped version of the show - I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again... Again! - on a 5-star reviewed tour...
"...Most importantly, they'd tweaked the material to bring it up to date, but only in a most sensitive manner, like somebody restoring an old master. Though timeless and surreal references to ferrets and groansome puns were its stock-in-trade, it seemed more like the original, ironically, when they occasionally included references to current events, so that it felt like a real show rather than a museum piece. Particularly impressive were the few comments about the general election result, which was only announced on the day of the performance. Purists needn't worry, they didn't change very much, it was still mainly packed full of swinging 60s zaniness, but those light touches of modernisation elevated the show to as near perfect as you could hope for. 5/5"
Here's the video trailer for that tour: 2017 Tour Trailer
So, what's next? Well, two things, actually. Thanks for asking!
Firstly, we'd like to put on a I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again Christmas Special (pieced together from the numerous Christmas shows that the original series produced).
Secondly, we'd very much like to go on a bigger tour in 2018, essentially doing a 'Greatest Hits II' - there's so much funny material over nine series that this would be an entirely NEW show.
And this is where YOU come in! If you saw the show, or were desperate to see it and couldn't make it, then perhaps you'd consider funding our next stage of the creative process? We'd be most grateful.
Our budget might seem like a lot but here's a little run-down of what this professional production has to pay for...
Cost of Venue Hire (performance and technical) Cost of Adapting The Script Cost of Rehearsal Space Cost of 4 Professional Musicians Cost of 5 Professional Actors Cost of Special Guest Star(s); original cast members Tim Brooke-Taylor, Graeme Garden, Bill Oddie, Jo Kendall and John Cleese, for example. Cost of Graphic Designer/Artist (posters and artwork) Cost of Set Building/Props (construction and materials) Cost of Copyright Percentage Cost of SFX Operator and Stage Manager Cost of extra Sound Equipment for venue (mics, etc) Cost of Public Liability Insurance Cost of Publicity (posters, flyers, programmes, etc) Cost of Producer/Director fees
So, we hope you might see your way to helping us with this and claiming one of the rewards up for grabs in doing so. It's a show that is purely entertaining and very, very silly. We'd appreciate your support.
The are a few prizes to choose from. £10 gets you a Gibbon Stuffing and if you have the pockets (like Graeme in the Movies episode) You can splash out on the Dirty Song Book item which is £750.
There a loads more things to chose from there so get picking!

Two things to tell you about – the start of the 67th Series this coming Monday on Radio 4 and a pilot recording of a new impressions-based panel show called ‘The Imitation Game’ starring Alexander Armstrong, Rory Bremner and Debra Stephenson, which Graeme Garden and I have devised for ITV, recording on Friday 7th July….. First, the new series of ‘I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue’, starts this Monday 26th June at 1830 on Radio 4 (with a repeat the following Sunday at 12 noon). The show transmission order is as follows: Episodes 1 and 2 - (Monday 26th June and Monday 3rd July) from the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford with Jack, Tim, Barry, Colin plus Andy Hamilton and Jo Brand. Episodes 3 and 4 - (Monday 10th and 17th July) from the Victoria Theatre in Halifax with Jack, Tim, Barry, Colin plus John Finnemore and Susan Calman. Episodes 5 and 6 - (Monday 24th and 31st July) from the New Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham with Jack, Tim, Barry, Colin plus Jeremy Hardy and (making her debut on ISIHAC) the brilliant Jan Ravens. Second, Graeme Garden and I have been asked by ITV to come up with a new panel show which we’re piloting at 7.30pm on Friday 7th July at Elstree Studios in Borehamwood (just north of London). Tickets are free and we’d love you to come along if you can make it. It’s called ‘The Imitation Game’ and features some of the country’s top impressionists. It includes several Clue-like rounds and will we’re sure appeal to fans of the programme. It’s hosted by Alexander Armstrong, with Rory Bremner, Debra Stephenson, Jess Robinson (a recent finalist on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’) and Luke Kempner (from ‘Murder in Successville’, ‘The Tracey Ullman Show’ and more). To get tickets (and for details of how to get there), here’s a link to the ticket website. http://www.sroaudiences.com/default.asp?tx=1996 Finally, and annoyingly, the BBC have stopped the very helpful newsletter we used to send advertising ISIHAC recordings, so this mailout is now the only means we have of communicating advance details of our BBC recordings. If you know anyone who used to subscribe to the now defunct BBC Clue newsletter, please encourage them to transfer their allegiance to this mailing list! Have a very happy summer. I look forward before too long to telling you about more ISIHAC recordings in the autumn. With best wishes, Jon Naismith Producer, I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue

| Bill Oddie's new book to be released 30 June 2017 |
more from same (Bill's Nature Shows) |
In an article in The Express to promote the release of his new book on June 30th, Bill Oddie discusses his "six best books"
Bill Oddie: My six best books - Billy Bunter of Greyfriars School and more
BILL ODDIE, 75, is known for the long-running comedy series The Goodies and was one of the original hosts of Springwatch. He has also presented Birding With Bill Oddie and other nature programmes. His latest book Tales Of A Ludicrous Bird Gardener (New Holland, £16.99) is out on June 30.
BILLY BUNTER OF GREYFRIARS SCHOOL by Frank Richards Out of print This is the sort of book you couldn’t do now because it’s so non-PC: people are cajoled for being fat, lazy and foreign. But it had a wonderful energy. I got to play Bunter on radio and I can’t help slipping into the voice, to most people’s annoyance.
A FIELD GUIDE TO THE BIRDS OF BRITAIN AND EUROPE by Roger Tory Peterson Out of print I was six or seven when I started bird watching and this book was almost life-changing. Until the 50s, there weren’t any good bird books, then Peterson developed a style of immaculate drawings with lines pointing to the features that were key to identifying the bird. That led to a whole genre.
JOURNAL OF 1826 by John James Audubon University of Nebraska, £25.99 Audubon trekked across America collecting information about birds, which was dangerous at the time. I love the fact that there’ll be an entry in his journals that says he was attacked by a Comanche war party followed by one where he got a splendid drawing of a plover.
BENEATH THE UNDERDOG by Charles Mingus Canongate, £9.99 I’m a slow reader but I buy a lot of music biographies. This is full of self-pity and raging anger which is quite shocking. He had a famously bad temper yet a lot of his music is very moving and passionate.
THE A-Z GUIDE TO GOOD MENTAL HEALTH: YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE FAMOUS TO HAVE MANIC DEPRESSION by Jeremy Thomas Penguin, £12.99 I was diagnosed as having manic depression when my wife and daughter noticed my up and down behaviour.
This is the book that helped me because it included an account of someone who was just like me: he got overconfident about what he was doing and impatient with people around him.
UNNATURAL SELECTIONS by Gary Larson Out of print An American cartoonist with my kind of humour.
It’s a bit distasteful at times but, if you’re feeling sad and you’ve just come away from the shrink, this will cheer you up.
