Dont put it off or put it on the round to it file. Do It Now. I did my first course nearly 20 years ago as an apprentice and the skills I learnt have come in handy when patching myself up on the job, par for the course when working with trade tools, also handy for patching up injured pets just ask Sally, and for assisting injured housemates. The advantage to yourself in doing such a course is that should you find yourself in the middle of something then instead of just panicing and standing arround gawking in terror you will set to and help out and make a positive contribution. Having viewed numerous reality shows over the years I have come to the conclusion that too many people have what I call the Fire Truck mentality, that is they get into trouble and expect a big shiny fire truck to come to their rescue. As events in London have shown, when the shit hits the fan, anything you can do to buy time for an injured person, till the rescue professionals can come to your aid, is absolutely vital and lifesaving. Once you understand the concept of triage especially in a disaster situation, buying time for someone is vital
