Subject:  Kickstarter campaign for "Joke" (a short film about Barry Cryer's joke
21/07/2025 21:19 0ST

Bob Cryer, son of The Goodies' longtime friend and professional collaborator Barry Cryer,  is directing a short film project based on 10 of Barry's favourite classic gags.

The film will be called "Joke", and in Bob's words "it features some of Britain’s finest comedy talent (including Judi Dench, Jack Dee, Stephen Fry, Sanjeev Bhaskar, and Alison Steadman). It’s a tribute to Dad’s love of silliness — especially the kind you’d hear on I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue on Radio 4."

They're currently crowdfunding the project on Kickstarter and have been awarded the "Project We Love" status by their staff.  If you are interested in learning more about the project and/or contributing, please visit the project's Kickstarter page https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jokefilm/joke-the-film
Bob also stated that they'd love to hear the fans' favourite Barry joke or Clue moment (and of course Barry also worked with Graeme Garden on "Hamish & Dougal: You'll Have Had Your Tea" and with Tim Brooke-Taylor in "Hello Cheeky", along with many other projects).

 Subject:  "The Unvarnished Truth"
31/10/2024 10:50 0ST

In case it's of interest to UK viewers.

This Saturday - 2 November 2024 - the digital channel Rewind (Freeview 95) is screening an April 1983 studio recording of the stage play "The Unvarnished Truth" which has, apparently, not been broadcast previously.  This TSW production sees Tim and Graeme reprising their roles from the 1978 performances of the black comedy which also features Jo Kendall.

All the best

Andrew

Subject:  Can anyone identify this music?
13/09/2024 12:39 0ST

At the start of The Goodies Rule, OK? (about 47 seconds in) a jaunty trumpet-led theme begins playing behind Graeme's voiceover about 1961 being an exciting year for showbusiness. Can any Goodies supernerds tell me what that music is?  I remember it as the theme to a TV show I watched as a kid in Australia, most likely a childrens' series from the UK, can't recall what it was. Would love to track down this music!

Subject:  The Goodies And The AI
10/08/2024 07:16 0ST

It's still winter where I am.
Does anybody tuck their singlet inside their under pants?

[For reference if you cannot recall what I am talking about see https://goodiesruleok.com/articles.php?id=61&page=5
Bill: "Yeah well, I've seen you get dressed, haven't I, yes. And I happen to know that you tuck your shirt inside your underpants! (chortles) You do!"
Tim (embarrassed): "Only in the winter." ]

Does anybody even still wear singlets these days?

The Goodies And The Beanstalk AI

Anyway, I have been playing with a couple of those AI type sites that generate images based on words you type in.  For the life of me, can get none of them to even closely generate a picture of The Goodies. Even if I specifically say the 'three' goodies, it always gives me four.  The 'AI' Bill image always is wearing glasses (in the series he did not), and always shows a poor approximation of him, probably more like Rastus T. Watermelon.

Has anyone out there had better success in this area than I?

Some AI generators have refused for 'political correctness' to even show images of white people, hoping they are not 'banning' The Goodies like the BBC 'banned' repeats.
https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-68412620

So instead thought I would dumb it down and ask it to generate individual images, but had little success. Finally then asked for younger versions of each of the goodies, again it struggled doing what I asked for especially with Bill, I asked for younger image of him interacting with birds/eggs.

I would not have been surprised if the AI (Automatic Idiots?) would have put a beard on Bill aged 4.
The Tim and Graeme 'younger' images look a bit better.

What do you think?

Bill: "I used to have a pet rabbit once.......and at no stage did he ever strap me to the couch and stick carrots in my ears!"

How do,

A Goodies lover since 1970 (yep, that old), I moved to Japan twenty years ago.
Kept myself going with the Network (rest their soul) DVDs but there is zero black pudding to be had over here - hence no Ecky Thump training.
So, I've had to make my own...
"EEE BAH GOOM!"
