INTRODUCTION
Welcome members once again to the C&G. This month it has been my pleasure to welcome many new members into the club. This is thanks to those people who have put the URL of our homepages on their homepages and to those who have helped to advertise the club in other ways. Thank you!
You may notice that this month’s C&G is shorter than usual. This is largely due to my off-line commitments. I have been performing in a production for the Adelaide Fringe Festival, which has taken a considerable amount of my time. For this I apologise. Next month’s C&G will be up to its usual standard and by then I will have done some more work regarding suggestions and plans for the club.
Anyway I hope you enjoy this temporarily shorter C&G!

ONGOING PROJECTS
I’m the first to confess that nothing much has been done concerning our projects to get club t-shirts and have The Goodies re-screened around the world. Next issue I promise you all, things will be done! Anyone who wishes to help with the petition in Australia to get The Goodies re-screened on the ABC is invited to submit ideas or offer to help by mailing me, <carrot@olis.mtx.net.au>.
HOMEPAGES
If you’ve been to the homepages lately you’ll know that they haven’t been updated lately. That is due to problems with my html program, which are being sorted out. When the pages are updated, there will be more member’s profiles, back issues of C&G #3 and #4, an updated version of the Procedures Document and Mission Statement (the one that was voted for at the meeting) as well as a Goodies logo kindly sent to me by Frauke Nonnenmacher, fn@ee.port.ac.uk, who created it on her computer and it’s so good it looks exactly like the real thing! I will also provide a page where you can download it in .gif format if I can work out how to do this and if Frauke has no objections!
In the mean time, if you want to submit a member’s profile for inclusion on the homepages, please mail them to me, carrot@olis.mtx.net.au , and Nik Whitehead (nwhitehe@mic.dundee.ac.uk) and I will put them up ASAP. Here is the basic format, feel free to adapt it to suit yourself! Members with profiles already on the homepages can update their profile at any time too!

ISIRTA IS TAKEN OFF RADIO NATIONAL
As Australians will probably know, ISIRTA is no longer playing on Radio National. Only a few episodes were played which I feel is very disappointing. I have e-mailed Radio National regarding this and have yet to receive a reply. I asked whether it would come back and also whether ISIHAC would be played on Radio National. Perhaps if more people wrote requesting ISIRTA and ISIHAC then they would be played. If you want to mail Radio National write to info@rn.abc.net.au .
COPYING FROM THEMSELVES
Regarding last issues’ article referring to Doctor In The House and its many sequels (40 episodes were written by Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie), Hugh McGuiness, hughm@jna.com.au, remembered this:
'One episode they wrote had a scene very reminiscent of the search for Professor Nuts, there were guys sleeping on the floor and a girl in a short nightie walks past (over) them, and one of the guys says "we'll never get any sleep with that flitting in and out all night!'
I’m not sure which episode this was from, but it’s certainly interesting. In fact GG and BO have recycled many of their jokes and themes in their various televisions and radio endeavours. Here’s a short list, please feel free to send more.
Recycled Themes
Jokes were made about the following items/groups in ISIRTA and The Goodies.
Gibbons, the Royal Family, the Aristocracy (particular fondness for retired colonels), rhubarb tart, rancid halibut giblets, pets called Gilbert, cod-pieces/fish fingers.

This joke appeared in both ISIRTA and The Goodies:
...has been made an Earl and an OBE, he thus becomes as earlobe.
A COMIC BY A COMIC

'I have a (comic) book co-authored by BO: "Supertot and the Robotty Potty Plot" (I kid you not :-). It's about a baby with super powers foiling an alien invasion. Sorry, I can't dig it out 'cos it's packed away.'
Anyone got any more info on this one?
THE BEST OF MICHAEL PARKINSON
(OR IS THAT MICHAEL DARKINSON?)
If you find yourself wondering about some of The Goodies celebrity targets then you might want to check out "The Best of Michael Parkinson", by Michael Parkinson, 1982, Pavilion Books Limited, ISBN: (Hardcover) 0-907516-14-9. You’ll find interviews with Muhammad Ali, Dame Edith Evans, Adam Faith, Tim Rice, Enoch Powell, Sir Alec Guiness, Rod Hull & Emu and David Bellamy, who have all been satirised at one time or another by TBT, GG and BO in ISIRTA, The Goodies or ISIHAC.
There are also some interesting interviews with Barry Humphries, Billy Connolly, Dudley Moore, Clive James, Jonathan Miller and Rowan Atkinson who said in 1981:
'I think John Cleese is still the funniest man in Britain and he undoubtably influenced me a fantastic amount from the age of twelve or thirteen - and of course through all of his career from "Sorry I’ll read that again" - a radio show in the 1960s and ‘Monty Python’ and all that.'
Surely some debt is owed to the script writers of "Sorry I’ll read that again" who wrote the parts for Cleese to fit his mannerisms.
GOODIES FANS ABOUND!

I don't know if you know about Channel 31, but it's a community station you can get pretty much all over Sydney. Anyway, every week on their call in/Music show "Street Noise" they have a theme which callers can ring in and talk about. A couple of weeks ago the theme was "What is your favourite TV Show?". And the two shows with the most votes were The Simpsons and The Goodies!
Indeed The Goodies is still very popular in Australia especially. Listeners to Martin Molloy (afternoon radio program on the Austereo Network) may remember a competition last year, where listeners were asked to ring in and say which TV show they would like to see repeated. It was a some what tongue in cheek competition where listeners suggested dreadful old TV programs, however one caller rang in suggesting The Goodies and was totally serious. She had the wrong idea about the competition but she has good taste!
3. DID YOU KNOW
The BBC has been an avid recycler long before it became fashionable, at least in the costume department. The shiny green and blue jacket worn by BO in "Scoutrageous" was originally worn by John Inman in an episode of "Are You Being Served", called "The Old Order Changes", originally broadcast in 1977. In this episode the staff of Grace Brothers department store are asked to dress in casual clothes to create a more friendly atmosphere in the store, the flamboyant Mr Humphries chooses where this outrageous jacket.
And it doesn’t stop there! One of the rabbit suits worn in "Animals", was later worn by Dawn French in an episode of "The Young Ones", where she played The Easter Bunny. (I’ve forgotten which Young Ones episode this was, can someone tell me?).
