GOODIES MERCHANDISE
(Lisa Manekofsky)

New, lower prices on Playbill's Goodies Tour Merchandise

Playbill Merchandise has dropped the prices on the t-shirts and baseball caps from the Goodies Australian tours. Both the yellow and khaki tees are now $20 each (plus P+H) while the caps have been reduced to $15 plus P+H. Playbill also still has souvenir programs from the tours (for $15 plus P+H). Please note that they will ship internationally.

You can visit Playbill's website anytime you're on the club pages by clicking the link in the "Tour Merchandise" box (on the right side of the window). Or you can get to the Goodies page directly by using this URL: http://www.playbill.com.au/shop/show_products.php?show_code=good

The following contribution is from Jonathan Sloman:
"Here's that letter from today's Metro - don't say you weren't warned. And, no, before you ask, I didn't see D Miles' letter, sorry."

--------------------

POULTRY CORNER

I absolutely agree with D Miles - The Goodies are our only chance of surviving bird flu (Metro, Tue), so I have adapted the lyrics of The Funky Gibbon:

The Fluey Chicken

We're The Goodies. Please stay calm/We've just been down on the farm/Saw a chicken in a coop/Doin' a wheeze that's not just croup/She's not well, she
Might cluck off/The Fluey Chicken/Cough! Cough! Cough!

Chorus: Cough, cough, cough, the Fluey Chicken (Fluey Chicken?)/She is feverish and hot/Cough, cough, cough, the Fluey Chicken (Fluey Chicken?)/Her runny beak/Has left her weak/With Fluey Chicken snot

Ministers are scowlin'/Veterinaries prowlin'/While chickens start to do the dying swan/There is poultry info/Hens dead as a dodo/It's on the loose, it's cooked their goose/This is H5N1

Tim gets a Goodie bag of classics
By Eddie McIlwaine
15 April 2006
It's Goodie Time at the Ulster Orchestra.

Former Goodie Tim Brooke-Taylor (right) signed a deal yesterday that will bring him to the Waterfront Hall on Saturday, May 6, to host a concert of requests.
This Goodie, who is also a panellist on the radio show I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue, will be keeping the audience clued up about each classical favourite as it is given an airing.
He's stepping into the breach after homebred Eamonn Holmes, the original choice as compere, discovered he was needed for the Lottery Show on television the same night.
"The concert is an amazing mix of tunes," says David Byers, the orchestra's chief executive, "and Tim says he loves every one of them. In fact the programme is a real goodie bag."
On stage with the orchestra ? conducted by the Royal Ballet's Paul Murphy from Londonderry - will be tenor Justin Lavender, soprano Ceara Grehan and the Belfast Philharmonic Choir.
On the bill will be everything from The Big Country to opera choruses from the likes of Finlandia and Nessun Dorma and Send in the Clowns and the Hallelujah Chorus.
(Lisa Manekofsky – Goodies-l – 16th Apr)

I'M SORRY I HAVEN'T A CLUE (ISIHAC) and
I'M SORRY I'LL READ THAT AGAIN (ISIRTA)

* The first recording for the third series of 'Hamish and Dougal: You"ll Have Had Your Tea', written by and starring Barry Cryer and Graeme Garden, took place at the Mermaid Theatre in the City of London on 6th March. Two episodes were recorded.

The first episode concerned Hamish's (Barry Cryer) gambling addiction, which was satiated when the Laird (Jeremy Hardy) opened a Scottish version of a Las
Vegas casino - McVegas. For some reason the Laird also ended up as the cabaret, doing a tribute to "that famous Scottish singer" Tom Jones. Fans of Jeremy Hardy's "singing" will be more than satisfied by his rendition of 'It's Not Unusual'.

The second show saw Mrs Naughtie (Alison Steadman) inheriting some money and taking Hamish, Dougal (Graeme Garden) and the Laird on an exotic holiday.

After the recording of the second show Jeremy Hardy got up and yelled "Let's hear it for Linda Smith!", a reference to the untimely death of the comedian and sometime 'I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue' guest panelist on 27th February. The audience burst into a warm and lengthy round of applause.

The second recording (of episodes three and four) took place at the Duchess Theatre, Covent Garden on 26th March.

Episode three is called The Subsidence Adventure, in which Hamish & Dougal become builders to the gentry. Their first job is to work on the foundations of the Laird's "Big Hoos". However, things don't quite go to plan... In the fourth episode, Inverary Jones and the Thimbell of Doom, Hamish and Dougal explore the Museum of the Glen on a boring, rainy day only to discover that the star exhibit - the thimble of doom - has been stolen by the legendary looter Inverary Jones. So they and the Laird set off in Mrs Naughtie's plane in search of the thief...

Producer Jon Naismith says these shows will not air on BBC Radio 4 until August. For those who missed out on tickets to these recordings the recording of episodes five and six will take place in April or May. Details coming soon - hopefully!
(Alison Bean)

5. COR!! COMIC SYNOPSIS #49
(by Linda Kay)

Issue 184
8th December, 1973 No. 72

When we last left our heroes they had been hypnotised by a Svengali-like bad guy who made the Goodies do his bidding and rob a jewelry store! What is the identity of this evil man? Will the Goodies ever break free from his wicked spell? Will they aid the police by arresting themselves? Let's find out, shall we?

Header: THIS IS AN ENTRANCING TALE - THE GOODIES ARE HYPNOTISED!

THE GOODIES WERE HYPNOTISED INTO BECOMING "THE BADDIES" AND CAUSED HAVOC IN CORTOWN WITHOUT KNOWING IT ... NOW THE POLICE HAVE ASKED THE GOODIES TO CAPTURE THE BADDIES!

We see the Goodies in workclothes carrying lumber and tools as they leave a jewelry store; a very happy jeweler is standing at the doorway behind them.

GRAEME: There! That's the last of the traps! If the Baddies try and rob any more jeweller's they'll be in for a BIG SURPRISE!

THE GOODIES SAT BACK TO AWAIT RESULTS, NOT KNOWING THAT THE HYPNOTIC TRANCE WAS ABOUT TO TAKE EFFECT AGAIN!

The Goodies are seen relaxing in their office ... Tim is sipping tea, Bill is listening to music on a portable radio and Graeme is reading a newspaper.

HERE WAS THE MAN RESPONSIBLE - DR. HYPNO ...

We see the evil Dr. Hypno sneaking down the street, frightening a woman and a cat as he goes by.

DR. HYPNO: *Ha, harrr!* I must get back to the Goodies headquarters and give 'em another *dose of hypnosis* ... otherwise the spell will WEAR OFF!

BUT THE HYPNOTIST FELL FOR ONE OF THE BADDIE'S PRANKS!

Dr. Hypno suddenly falls into an uncovered manhole with an AAAGH!

THE GOODIES WENT OUT ON PATROL ...

The Goodies are on their trandem, riding around the neighborhood looking for the Baddies, Tim with a telescope and Graeme with binoculars. Bill is on the back of the bike and starts to look dizzy.

BILL: *Ooer!* I'm coming over all funny!

THE SPELL WAS TAKING OVER ...

The Goodies leap from the bike and race toward a phone box, throwing off their clothes behind them in their mad dash.

GRAEME: Quick, gang ... into this PHONE BOX ... it's time to become ...

They emerge from the phone box dressed all in black from head to foot, their faces covered with hoods.

GRAEME: THE BADDIES!

They go into a jewelry store and hold the jeweler up at gunpoint.

GRAEME: This is a *hold up!* Open your safe!

As the jeweler complies and opens the door to his safe a boxing glove on a spring pops out and hits Bill in the face with a BIFF, knocking him backwards. Bill lays on the floor in a daze ... the blow had broken the spell! But he looks up to see the Baddies robbing the safe.

BILL: Hey! What IS all this? Where AM I? Good heavens ... it's THE BADDIES!

Tim and Graeme, still hypnotised as the Baddies, run from the store with a swag bag and jewels flying in their wake. Bill runs after them with a large mallet.

BILL: Stop! Stop! I'll CLOBBER you!

THE HYPNOTIC SPELL WAS BEGINNING TO WEAR OFF!

Graeme comes to a sudden stop, Tim's head slamming into the back of Graeme's. Graeme is confused while Tim sees Bill coming up behind them with the mallet.

GRAEME: Stop!! What are we doing? Where are we?

TIM: Look! There's a BADDIE!

The tables are turned as Tim and Graeme turn around and start chasing after Bill, who throws aside the mallet and runs for his life. As they run down the street we see Dr. Hypno finally climbing up out of the manhole directly in their path. Graeme is swinging the swag bag over his head.

BILL: OOER!

GRAEME: AFTER HIM!

Bill runs past Dr. Hypno just as Graeme swings the swag bag at him. The bag comes down on Dr. Hypno's head.

GRAEME: Take that! *Oops!* Missed!

DR. HYPNO: GNNNN!

The Goodies stop chasing one another and stand beside the manhole, looking confused.

TIM: Just a minute! We're ALL the Baddies! I remember now ... that funny little bloke with the WATCH!

GRAEME: HE must have made us do it!

THE GOODIES DECIDED TO TURN THEMSELVES IN ...

The Goodies stand in front of the police Sergeant's desk and explain their story.

TIM: So you see, Sergeant . . . we were *hypnotised* into becoming the Baddies ... and now we're giving ourselves up!

GRAEME: Yeah! And we claim the REWARD!

The Sergeant is not impressed and his officers herd the Goodies into a jail cell.

SERGEANT: But you *won't* be able to *spend* it 'cos we're LOCKING YOU UP! Take 'em away, lads!

BILL: Aagh! That's not fair!

The Goodies are booted roughly into a cell.

GRAEME: Oh, well ... things could be WORSE!

As the cell door slams shut we see that Dr. Hypno was standing behind it! He proceeds to hypnotise the Goodies again to get them to hand over the loot they stole.

DR. HYPNO: You are feeling *sleepy* ... SLEEPY ... you will give the money to me ... to ME!

POLICE SERGEANT (in an inset panel): He's right! I didn't tell 'em they'd be in the same cell as DR. HYPNO ... we copped him for ROBBING A COAL CELLAR! Haw, Haw!

Sign-Off Line: You'll Be "Police-d" To See The Goodies Again Next Week!

RATING (using the BLACK PUDDING RATING SYSTEM):

III - Goody goody yum yum.

There's a lot going on in this particular comic adventure and plenty of small jokes in the background to really fill out the panels. In the first panel Tim hits Bill on the head accidentally with the long plank he's carrying; a classic comedic cliche. The woman and cat which Dr. Hypno scare as he's walking down the street is quite overdramatic which makes it funny. As the Goodies are out on patrol we see a butcher's shop in the background with gates and locks across the front door and a piece of meat with a sign that says "Prime" inside. Tim is looking through his spyglass at a pretty girl who is walking along the sidewalk.

The Goodies' mad dash into the phone box is particularly well done, as is their emergence as the Baddies (in which they smash right through the glass doors!). As they rob the jewelry shop it is clear that Graeme is using a pop gun! This is proved when Bill is hit in the face with the boxing glove and Graeme accidentally fires the gun with the result that a flag which reads BANG! Pops out. As the Baddies rob the jewelry store safe there are some shelves behind Bill with different jewels and signs which read "Bargain" and "140,000 pounds - deposit."

The escape from the jewelry store takes place on a busy street. A mini car has to slam on its brakes to keep from hitting them. A businessman is walking along with his nose buried in a newspaper, taking no note of what's happening around him. A policeman on the street outside the store just looks stunned but does nothing. We also see the name of the store is "Jules Jewels."

When Graeme and Tim screech to a stop it is in front of a Chinese restaurant called Soo Yoo Chinese Nosh. A stereotypical Chinese man in robes and with a long braid watches them throughout the next panel, then dashes back inside his restaurant. When Bill throws away the mallet somehow Tim ends up with it. At the police station the Sergeant has a police light on the back of his chair. The Goodies are thrown into the jail cell (or rather a dungeon, according to one sign) and a mouse is sitting there waiting for them.

After the Goodies have gone through so much and been victimized throughout this story it's a shame the ending didn't let them reap some reward or bring Dr. Hypno to justice themselves. But overall for the only two part story of this series they maintained the story very well with the result that this is a very fun episode.
