SPECIAL 40TH EDITION C&G STILL TO COME
As mentioned last month, we've decided to hold the news and reviews regarding the 40th Anniversary celebrations of The Goodies over for a special edition of the C&G.
The special edition is almost completed and will be sent out within the next few days - Lone Scout (plus one's) Honour! The versions sent out to members via the Newsletter and Word mailing lists will not contain any photos; however the GROK website version will contain an extensive gallery of photos from the Goodies Gathering in Manchester, the Anniversary Celebration in Bristol and the Goodies Picnic in Melbourne. A link to the website edition will be provided in the mailing list versions.
GIVE A GOODIES GIFT FOR THE FESTIVE SEASON
(Lisa Manekofsky)
It's the time of year when many of us are thinking about giving and getting gifts. Luckily, there are lots of new options for the Goodies fans!
GOODIES DVDS:
In honor of The Goodies 40th Anniversary last month new DVD were released in England; one of the titles will be released in Australia later this week.
1. "The Goodies...At Last - Back for More, Again" (currently available in the UK; to be released in Australia on 16 December) contains the digitally restored episodes "Cecily", "The Music Lovers", "The New Office", "Goodies Rule - OK?", "Camelot", "It Might As Well Be String", "2001 And A Bit", and "Royal Command". As a bonus feature, the two disk set comes with a new booklet written by archive television historian Andrew Pixley.
2. "The Goodies...At Last! [Repackaged] " (released in the UK on 8 November) is a new version of the out-of-print 2003 Network DVD set "The Goodies...At Last!". This two disk set includes the digitally restored episodes "Tower of London", "Gender Education", "Kitten Kong", "The Goodies and the Beanstalk", "Kung Fu Kapers", "Lighthouse Keeping Loonies", "Earthanasia", and "Saturday Night Grease".
Network has explained that, due to contractual reasons, they were unable to include the special features from the original releases. However, as a special bonus this set has a brand-new booklet written by Andrew Pixley (the 2003 set did not have a booklet).
While I understand some may be disappointed at not getting the other special features, please remember that this reissue allows fans to get the eight wonderful, digitally restored Goodies episodes that otherwise wouldn't continue to be available in the shops.
3. "The Goodies...At Last A Second Helping [Repackaged] " (released in the UK on 8 November) is a new version of the out-of-print 2005 release "The Goodies...At Last A Second Helping". It contains the digitally restored episodes "Radio Goodies", "Come Dancing", "The Movies", "South Africa", "Bunfight at the OK Tearooms", "The End", "Scoutrageous", and "Punky Business". The bonus feature is the booklet written by Andrew Pixley that was included with the 2005 release. As is the case with "The Goodies...At Last! [Repackaged], Network was unable to include the other special features from the 2005 release due to contractual reasons (and again, at least thank goodness these eight Goodies episodes are now once again available in the shops).
4. "The Goodies...At Last the 40th Anniversary" Box Set (released in the UK on 8 November). This box set consists of a slipcase housing the four Network DVD sets "The Goodies...At Last! [Repackaged]", "The Goodies – At Last A Second Helping [Repackaged]", "The Goodies - The Complete LWT Series", and "The Goodies...At Last - Back For More, Again", for a total of 8 disks and 31 episodes. Each of the four individual titles contains a booklet written by Andrew Pixley.
I'M SORRY I HAVEN'T A CLUE:
With all the excitement of the new Goodies DVDs we didn't get a chance to report on some recent new merchandise releases from Tim & Graeme's BBC Radio 4 series "I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue"
1. "I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue Volume 12" is available as both a 2 CD set and as a digital download from retailers such as AudioGo. Here's a product description, from Amazon.co.uk's website: "This title presents four more compilations from the award-winning BBC Radio 4 series specially compiled by producer Jon Naismith. "Risky, rude, brilliantly written and superbly performed". (The Judges, Sony Radio Academy Awards). This twelfth collection of the antidote to panel games finds the late Humphrey Lyttelton giving regular panellists Tim Brooke-Taylor, Barry Cryer and Graeme Garden silly things to do - along with special guests Jeremy Hardy, Sandi Toksvig, Tony Hawks and Linda Smith. Highlights of this title include "Play Your Chords Right", "New Definitions", "Naturists' Song Book", "Inadvisable Openings", "Sound Charades", "One Song to the Tune of Another", "84 Chicken Cross Road", "Uxbridge English Dictionary", "Swanee Kazoo" and the incredibly popular "Mornington Crescent". So get ready to laugh out loud as Humph and the gang indulge in more wonderful wordplay, accompanied by Colin Sell on the piano and the lovely Samantha, who likes to keep each team abreast (with the scores). This is the last "I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue" compilation volume to feature Humphrey Lyttelton as host."
2. "I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue: Doings of Hamish & Dougal" is also available on CD or as a digital download. Here's the product description: "Barry Cryer and Graeme Garden star as Hamish and Dougal, the two Scotsmen made internationally quite well known from their appearances on "I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue"; with Alison Steadman as Mrs Naughtie, their cleaning lady cum housekeeper, and Jeremy Hardy as the local Laird. Whether hosting a musical evening or a shooting party, entering talent contest 'Fay McAdemy', hooking the Loch Jaw Monster or making advances to Mrs Naughtie, the doings of Hamish and Dougal are never less than hilarious. This limited edition box set contains the complete Series 1, 2 and 3, plus the "Burns Night Special and Hogmanay Special", guest-starring Colin Sell, Tim Brooke-Taylor and Humphrey Lyttelton as the Laird's butler. With cover art illustrated by Tom Garden and music by John Garden, Graeme Garden's sons, this collection will delight all fans of the dotty duo. All three series of the popular BBC Radio 4 comedy, plus two seasonal specials."
3. The paperback edition of Jem Roberts' book "The Fully Authorised History of I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue: The Clue Bible from Footlights to Mornington Crescent" was recently released and is available from retailers such as Amazon.
SUPER CHAPS THREE:
The long-awaited book from Andrew Pixley, "The Goodies - Super Chaps Three, was published last month.

WEBSITE POLLS
Wow!! Last month's poll produced our highest voter turnout by far and the overwhelming consensus is that the majority of us are children of the 1970s and rather proud of it (or at least we would be if we could remember back that long ago!) We can remember watching The Goodies in the 70s at any rate, so it doesn't matter if we can recall all of the other less important stuff!
In which decade did you discover Tim, Graeme, & Bill's work?
- the 1960's 13 votes
- the 1970's 432 votes
- the 1980's 93 votes
- the 1990's 20 votes
- the 2000's 57 votes
- this year (2010) 17 votes
- Rolf Harris told me about them 30 votes
Total: 662 votes
This month's poll is about something very new that we'll all have no trouble remembering – the newly-released Goodies DVD with eight great episodes in fully-restored splendour to enjoy. So jump aboard a trandem, cello, disused railway station, dragon, giant Dougal, Captain Fishface's boat, rollerskates or horseback and head to your nearest website polling booth to vote for your favourite episode today. You know it makes sense!
Which is your favourite episode from the new Goodies DVD
(The Goodies...At Last - Back for More, Again)?
- Cecily
- The Music Lovers
- The New Office
- Camelot
- Goodies Rule - OK?
- It Might As Well Be String
- 2001 and A Bit
- Royal Command
- I want the one with Rolf Harris!
3. SPOTTED!!!

SLAPSTICK AWARDS
(Lisa Manekofsky – 9th Nov)
Thanks to the Bristol Slapstick Festival for a pointer to this photo - http://yfrog.com/5togbj - of the Slapstick Festival and Aardman Animations Awards for Excellence in Visual Comedy Award The Goodies received last evening.
GOODIES RESCREENINGS
(Lisa Manekofsky – 15th & 29th Nov, 4th Dec)
* Mondays & Thursdays: ABC 2 in Australia is repeating "The Goodies" at 8:05pm Mondays and 11:05pm Thursdays - watch your local listings for changes, especially around the holiday season. Coming up next: "The Goodies - Almost Live"on Monday, 6 December at 8:05pm and "Way Outward Bound" on Thursday, 9 December at 11:05pm. The episode information for the following Monday isn't on ABC's website at the moment but Thursday, 16 December's episode is "Superstar" at 11:05pm. http://www.abc.net.au/tv/programs/thegoodies.htm
* "Hype Pressure" is scheduled for Monday, December 13.
"Almost Live" is S06E07 (episode 7 of series 6) whereas "Hype Pressure" is S06E02, so ABC2 isn't quite honouring the original airing order. (Just a bit of trivia really. I don't think it matters in terms of continuity.)
(Andrew Clarke – 7th Dec)
* Thanks to Andrew Pixley for passing along the news that eight episodes of "The Goodies" are scheduled for broadcast on BBC Two from Wednesday 22 to Thursday 30 December.

- Thu 23 December 11.30pm - Kung Fu Kapers
- Xmas Eve 12.25am - The Goodies and the Beanstalk

- Thu 30 December 12 midnight - The Stone Age

5. GOODIES CROSSWORD PUZZLE
***************************
(by Brett Allender)
Here's a new Goodies crossword for fans of the superchaps three to puzzle over.
As with my previous crosswords, if you're not familiar with a number of the Goodies episodes listed, the information in my Goodies Episode Summaries (in the "Articles/Guides" section) should help you solve the clues.
There is also a copy of the grid and clues in a print-friendly format in the "Articles/Guides" section of the website at http://www.goodiesruleok.com/articles.php?id=88&page=11 along with the solution on a separate page. The solution will also be printed in next month's newsletter.
