Thanks for posting that, Wacky.  Sounds like the turnout was wonderful, though that's hardly a surprise.

In case anyone was wondering, Tim wouldn't have been able to attend as he was out of the country yesterday (yes, he'll be back in time for the Reading Clue show tomorrow evening).

Memorial service


A service to celebrate the life and work of Sir David Hatch was held yesterday at the Church of All Souls, Langham Place, London. Canon Hugh Palmer, rector, officiated. Mr Richard Briars read the lesson. Ms Jenny Abramsky, Director of Music & Audio, BBC, spoke of David and the BBC, Mrs Penny Rainford, daughter, spoke of her father and his family, Sir Hayden Phillips spoke of David and his public life, and Ms Sue Lawley spoke of David and his friends. Sir Terry Wogan, Sir David Jason and Mr John Cleese paid tribute.

During the service the BBC Singers sang A Prayer of Saint Patrick, words from St Patrick's Breastplate translated by Cecil Alexander, music by Mr John Rutter, from Les Choristes by Bruno Coulais, Ave Verum Corpus by Mozart and Spread a Little Happiness from Mr Cinders by Vivian Ellis.

Mr Stephen Farr, organ, Mr Giles Fowler and Mr Matthew Wells, trumpets, and Ms Fiona Gillett, cello, played during the service. Dr Noel Tredinnick was the director of music. Among others present were:
