I didn't want to say anything out of rudeness, but Bill scares me too. It's funny, because one of the reasons I'd be scared about meeting him is the height difference. I'd be scared of him being diddy, and he'd probably be scared of me being tall. It's a vicious cycle.

Aside from that silly reason, I think it would be his unpredictableness (is that a word? It is now) that would scare me most, but I would still love to meet him. He is on my list of scary comedians though, which also includes John Cleese and Paul Merton. I love those two to bits as well, but I'd be terrified in their presence.

Anyway, I'll stop rambling now.

Very much so, Nez - 'who are all these people, and why won't they just go away?  A bit of a contradiciton, since he's also capable of coming across as quite, um, showbizlike (No, I did NOT say big-egoed.  I didn't.  Really.)

I think Bill would be the Goody I'd be most cautious about asking for an autograph or anything - then again I'm crap at that when it comes to asking Tim and Grae.  I worry they'll think I'm being cheeky if I ask for loads of autographs.  I had to compensate by asking for cuddles instead.  Shame. Maybe Bill wouldn't object to being asked for a cuddle as much as being asked for an autograph...  Maybe he'd object more...  You know - amazing and wonderful and generally fantastic though I think he is - I'm sure deep down I'm scared of him...!!!

I got his autograph once and although he signed it without complaint, I got the distinct impression that he didn't want to be there signing all those things for all those people - he wanted to be off watching feathery things flying about the countryside!

Poor Bill. In the recent-ish, 'Mark Lawson talks to Bill Oddie' interview he did talk quite frankly about his bouts with depression and how it's had an effect on fans. He mentioned that he always fills up with dread whenever someone approaches him with the words, "I met you when I was little" and then told how he'd reacted towards them. Although there were the odd 'f' offs, there's also been very grateful fans who said they thought he was great and he'd chatted to them, wrote little poems with their autographs and included silly little doodles. How sweet.

I'm going to have to listen to "Just To Keep Warm" now, such a great little song.

I've had an arm-around-shoulders, does that count?  (Does to me.  I nearly died.)  I am eternally grateful to the God of Neurochemistry that Bill was in a good mood when I met him.  I got a program signed, a huglike squeeze and a photo.  I didn't get told to f* off, which he admits himself has happened...

To me, it seemed Bill was the least comfortable with the adulation.  I also noticed a lot of the male fans went straight for Graeme, while the lassies went for Tim or Bill.  I was a bit surprised when the Graeme thread started to see how popular he is with the ladies.

I was thinking (as I was reading all the tributes to Steve Irwin on the BBC News website) that Bill should pick up his game a bit. Quite a few of the comments were wishing that there was someone like Steve in the UK. I think Bill needs to get a bit more dangerous.
