I loved the TIYL recording! I agree with Jess that the fact he didn't really want to do it made it much more entertaining. There definitely should have been more Tim and Graeme but Michael Palin's message was great

' I listened to the 'This Is Your Life' recording t'other night (thanks so much Alison, you're a legend) and it sounds like Bill really didn't want to be there at all. |
From what Bill said in an interview he did later, it appeared he was a bit apprehensive because of his family background (his mother's mental illness and some other difficult relatives). When first confronted with the idea of being the subject of TIYL he was concerned about who or what might pop up. However, on the ride back to London he listened to a couple of mobile message his daughter Rosie left on his voicemail, including one saying it'd be all right because Laura, Bill's wife, was involved in organizing it. Bill said he figured it'd be all right then, and he also realized a lot of his friends went to the bother of flying in for the taping and it'd be really wrong of him not to participate. |

It's quite an impressive feat that anyone can pull off the top-knot look, especially a bloke. Tim gives Bill a good run for his money in 'The End', mind, but they're both great in their own right.
I listened to the 'This Is Your Life' recording t'other night (thanks so much Alison, you're a legend) and it sounds like Bill really didn't want to be there at all. He sounded ever so ratty, but he was highly amusing because of it. I especially liked him slagging off David Frost, that was particularly amusing. It's a shame there wasn't more of Tim and Graeme, but I'm glad that Tim made mention of Bill's music, it's insane to think how unappreciated his musical abilities are.
I can't think of how much more was mentioned, but it was all good. He's a talent fellow, that Bill chap.

Hang on a minute. If you try really hard to ignore the beard, he almost looks feminine. Or is that just me? |
