Here's the text from the article about the auction:
Iconic 'Trandem' from The Goodies up for auction
Three-man bike that grace British comedy across two decades to be sold at auction next month
Fans of 1970s comedy and cycling may want to put their hands into their pockets as the three-rider 'trandem' that played a pivotal part in The Goodies will be put on sale at Ewbank's Auction, Surrey next month.
The Goodies were a trio of British comedians, Tim Brooke-Taylor, Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie (before the bird watching) who created and starred in one of the most iconic comedy programmes of the 1970s and 80s.
Many of their antics took place upon this iconic three-person bike, known at the Trandem, which Brooke-Taylor, Garden and Oddie all rode.
There were three different Trandems - one for each series - and Ewbank's Auctions will be selling the blue bike which featured in the final series.
The bike was originally sold by Sotheby's in 1987 before collectors then sold the bike on to comedy trio The Trap in 2004 for their Edinburgh Festival Show. This trio are now putting the bike up for sale once again with an estimated price of £1,000-£1,500.
The Goodies last used the bike in 2005 when the original three performers got back together on TV show Richard and Judy.
Before the sale, Ewbank’s specialist Alastair McCrea commented on the bike and its unique place in British comedy history.
'The Trandem is an iconic piece of TV history from the golden era of light entertainment and comedy,' said McCrea.
'Like Tommy Cooper’s Fez, Rod Hull’s Emu or Ken Dodd’s Tickling Stick, the Trandem is instantly recognisable in its association with The Goodies and so is an absolute gift for any collector in this field.' |
