Wow, thanks very much! Some interesting-looking stuff there - will watch/listen this evening. (And there was me, feeling all proud of having cleared some space on my hard drive this morning...I'll just have to offload anything really good onto my external drive or store it online!)

You wouldn't have the 'Play It Again' with Bill learning guitar, by any chance? I've only seen a clip from it. I don't know why the BBC don't let you pay a small fee to download old programmes; maybe it's a rights thing.

What I found handy if ever need to attach large files are (free) sites like mediafire.com for long term storage (you might know of others already?), or filemail.com if you want to upload huge files (up to 30Gig) which are accessible for 1-7 days (use the URL not email option) after which the file is automatically deleted.

It's a good way to get a file to another person that is too big via email. Then just give url to the recipient.

an example is here  https://fil.email/pHTYOSP7
some Goodies interviews n stuff bundled up in a .rar file will be at that link for next 7 days (124Meg).

Glad to hear you're getting these books, Wahski. For anyone who can only manage the paperback Clue Bible, Jem's kindly posted the endpapers on his website: https://jemroberts.com/2014/12/31/2014-a-hitchhiker-odyssey-endpapers/ (scroll down).
I was going to attach but it's a huge file. There's an interview with Jem in one of the Goodies Podcasts, which is how I heard about the endpapers.

The Clue Bible was published in 2009.
If wanting a new copy in hardback, you may have to sell your your spare Velazquez or "Monarch Of The Glen" painting, as the ones I have seen are (US) $140+ (Amazon) or £48.47+ from AbeBooks - two examples I could find.

I just ordered a second hand hardcover of both the Clue Bible, and "I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue: The Best of Forty Years:" - total cost circa US$22 - which is not too bad.

Hmmm - I might also get a print of "Monarch Of The Glen" 1851  by Sir Edwin Landseer to complete my Goodies related memorabilia

'I'm just confused about the amount of time they all spent at Cambridge; how Bill got into the Footlights (who introduced him etc.) and when they (or Tim) first went to Edinburgh with a revue.

I think Roger Wilmut's book From Fringe to Flying Circus covers this quite well. I can't remember all the details off the top of my head, bit I think they all did 3 years at Cambridge. And Tim was in the 1962 revue, Double Take (also with Graham Chapman and John Cleese) which went to Edinburgh (the 1963 one with Bill, which became Cambridge Circus never actually got to Edinburgh)

In case anyone doesn't know, there is now a wonderful and thorough book by Jem Roberts called 'The Clue Bible' which covers the early days of the Goodies' meeting at Cambridge, Cambridge Circus and ISIRTA in part one, and ISIHAC (I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue - a radio show not very well-known outside the UK, sadly, as this meant that Jem found it hard to get his book properly distributed down under) in part two. If you get a copy, try and get the hardback as it has the bonus of a collage of images on the endpapers.

Argh!  I saw that too, and actually went and watched Rule OK again to check...

EiSENstein being corrupted into Einstien is my favourite spell-check error, but only because it's just obscure enough that you could imagine people reading it and just assuming Albert made films between coming up with the theory of relativity...

Hello Helga, by the way!

Oh, dear. At least I'm not going mad. I knew I saw some errors.

I bought copies of the book for myself and as Christmas gifts. I thought the layout was good and some of the photographs I had never seen. I particularly enjoyed seeing the "what happened to" segments about the various guest stars of the show. However I noticed a few errors, one of which really grates on me - I can only assume it's a typo - in regard to the Goodies Rule O.K. special, on page 126 he refers to the "Myth Inspectors". You couldn't have watched this episode and possibly mistaken the word "mirth" for "myth" . I know you have to expect some printing errors in anything these days - we were particularly intrigued to see the book was actually printed in Dubai of all places - I'm certain most of the natives would never have heard of the Goodies. (?) Anyway a book was long overdue. I only wish mine was a signed copy !

I have finally gotten back to this great site after a little while off, but I got the book for Christmas!

On the whole I quite like it. I agree with some of the comments about some episode write ups being great and others being a bit light on. I personally would have liked the episode write ups to have been more consistent.

I do like the book though and was so glad to see a book all about these wonderful fellows!

Oh, and for the anal retentive..there's an error on top of page 32. Either that or the sentence makes no grammatical sense; "At the same time the team was hard at work on the second series of Doctor in the House, writing all thirteen episodes that were to be screened from. " From what?

'I think I remember hearing Jane Root (BBC Bighead Controller) had said soemthing like she'd never show the Goodies while she was in charge... or something like that.

This is true. I was working with BBC Manchester at the time on what became "I Love 70s" and there was a half-hour comedy slot available each week. Associate producer Stephen McGinn and I felt that rather re-running episodes of "The Good Life" and "Fawlty Towers" yet *again*, we could use "The Goodies" (who were to be featured in the "I Love 70" show) to fill all the slots because a) they hadn't been screened in over a decade and b) they had lots of 70s cultural references. As such, we drew up a list comprising ‘Give Police a Chance’ (to cover police brutality and the open-air concert phenomena), ‘Gender Education’ (Mrs Whitehouse and the NVALA), ‘Kitten Kong’ (the only non-topical show which would have been selected for its award winning status), ‘Superstar’ (glam rock, and a nice cameo from John Peel), ‘Invasion of the Moon Creatures’ (the Apollo missions and "A Clockwork Orange"), ‘Kung Fu Kapers!" (the martial arts craze), ‘Lips, or Almighty Cod’ (the Cod war), ‘Alternative Roots’ (Roots and the condemnation of "The Black and White Minstrel Show"), ‘Punky Business’ (punk rock) and ‘Politics’ (the election of Margaret Thatcher). This suggestion was sent up the chain of command and we were told - from the top - that this *wouldn't* be happening.

Thankfully, Stephen McGinn has remained a strong supporter of "The Goodies" and was instrumental in getting "Return of the Goodies" onto BBC Two via his company Objective North. He's a really lovely fella and a joy to work with.

All the best

Andrew
