Subject: "Robert Ross' Book Club": "The Complete Goodies" 21/05/2020 06:41 GMT
Robert Ross did a very engaging one hour video piece the other day as part if his Book Club series in which he takes questions and discusses various different comedy volumes on which he has worked. This week, it was his landmark 2000 publication "The Complete Goodies" - and it's a chance for him to recall a lot of happy memories of meeting his comedy heroes as well as paying tribute to Tim.
It was rather nice watching this. I remember how delighted and excited I was with the book when it was published... and how disappointed I was when it became clear that Real Life in May 2000 would preclude me getting along to the launch at the NFT in London. Publishing a book about the Goodies in the UK at this time was an extremely brave move for everyone concerned, and Robert packed so very much into this volume - it's one which, even now, I will often get off the shelf for a few minutes of wistful nostalagia.
Robert's one of the key people to have helped maintain the profile of the Goodies in the UK over the last 20 years and he's also written a lot of other books on the subject of comedy (his biography of Marty Feldman was particularly enjoyable). He's a regular presenter at the Slapstick! events and it's rather nice seeing him still being enthusiastic about "The Goodies" after all these years.
And Gemma Fanning also does a rather good job of coping with the technology and keeping it all flowing as well.
Anyway, a very enjoyable little hour with happy memories if you're looking for some Goodies-related videos to while away the lockdown.
