I'm going to visit the Bradford Film, TV and Photography Museum over summer - apparently they have some sort of mediatheque where you can view programmes on demand - I'm hoping they may have the Horizon prog in their archive... |

'A good extra would be the 1974 'Horizon' feature on filming the Goodies stunts - there's a small clip of this on 'Return Of The Goodies' of them filming being run over by a train in 'Cunning Stunts'... |
The "Horizon" programme - "How On Earth Did They Do That?" - is quite, quite brilliant. I remember watching this so vividly at Christmas 1974 and catching the repeats over the next few years, and it is packed with fascinating pieces of footage and background about all manner of film and television effects. At that time, the episodes of "The Goodies" hadn't been screened so it was exciting to get these advance glimpses ... and we also had a sneak previous of "Space: 1999" which was then bring filmed at Pinewood and wouldn't debut in the UK for another nine months.
There were two sequences featuring "The Goodies". The first - filmed on 27 September - was all about glass matte painting and covered the shooting of "Rome Antics", showing how the gladiatorial stadium was painted in at a sports ground. The other sequence - shot on 17 October - is the one which shows Graeme and Tim getting flattened by the train and run over in real-time. Oh, and Jim Franklin's famous singing dogs film from "Broaden Your Mind" turned up again as well ...
Because this is one of my favourite programmes, it's one I've pushed for use of in the past, both with Network on DVD, and also on "Return of the Goodies" where we did have a brilliant production team. Fingers crossed we can get it all liberated one day ...
All the best

' Did this a while back on another thread after writing it and forgetting to post it. I think my choices would be:
"Playgirl Club" - I would pick this for its rarity value only. It's not brilliant but a lot of people have not had chance to see a decent copy "The Music Thief" - it's a brilliant early episode where the format works so well and has some very slick visuals "A Collection of Goodies" - There are some lovely sequences on here which deserve to be seen "The New Office" - terrific fun with a brilliant climax "Scatty Safari" - a very enjoyable episode from the classic fifth series which deserves to be seen uncut "Goodies Rule - OK?" - certainly my favourite show and still a real delight "It Might As Well Be String" - a wonderful encapsulation of the advertising world of the day "U-Friend or UFO" - a very strong episode from the last BBC run
For extras, I would hope we could include the additional material from the "Engelbert with the Young Generation" shows, with subtitles on the scenes where we only have the German soundtrack.
All the best

I don't know quite what I'd like episode wise but special features-wise, I'd like commentary subtitles (like in the Doctor Who DVDs) as the commentaries on the first two DVDs at least, were very quiet and Graeme was often drowned out completely! |
