I managed to region free my DVD player and it was easy as selling STRING! (string is evil! )

Not sure of the models in other countries, but in "Ostray-lee-arr", personally I like the LG DVD players, as they show long file names for divx files & play them well, and are easily made region free!

For most LG players /recorders (eg models DVD276 -Silver & DVD380 -Black slimline) do the following:

Open Tray
Press 000  (ie x3 zeros)
A Region selection will appear
Press 0  (for all regions)
Press Pause
Turn player off/ on

All done!

For PCs, I would recommend a program called AnyDVD from "Slysoft", it effectively fools your DVD player into thinking the disc is in the correct region, so you don't use up your x5 region changes.

You can download a demo which will work for 3 weeks from  http://www.slysoft.com/en/download.html to see if it is of benefit to you.

I got caught too!! I bought the entire boxed set of Keeping Up Appearances and they wouldn't play on my dvd. But there are sites on the internet to hack into your region code for various dvd playes. You need to know the make and model. It was really easy and worked first time! Phew!

Hi kalavista, welcome to the forums!  I'm always psyched to meet other fans from the US.

Fear not - it is possible to get a DVD player that will let you watch disks from overseas!

One way is to buy a DVD player that you can modify yourself.  The Video Help DVD Hacks site (http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks) might be of help.

The other option is to find a vendor who sells already modified DVD players.  I had good luck on eBay, where I bought one for under $100 (just make sure you buy from someone with good feedback ratings).

When buying your DVD player make sure you get one that is:

    1. Region Free (or multi region)
                    AND
    2. will convert PAL to NTSC

Let me know if have any further questions!

(BTW, you may be interested to learn there is one three-episode Goodies DVD available in the US which has an episode not available on the UK sets - http://www.amazon.com/Goodies-Bill-Oddie/dp/B00028G6US/

Info on all the Goodies DVD releases can be found here: http://www.thegoodies.info/videos_2000_present.html)

*whimper* doggone it. well, at least I don't have to feel dumb for ordering the wrong region.. if there's only one version, guess that's it ... anyone have any ideas about playing Region 2 DVD's in the States?
My predicament - my laptop will play it, but only if I change my laptop settings to Region 2. Ok, no problem - BUT my computer will only allow me to switch back & forth from Region 2 to 1 a total of 4-5 times... and then it's stuck forever. ARGH!!
Is there a particular type of DVD player that plays all regions??

I'm afraid you may be out of luck.  As far as I know there was only a region 2, and possibly a dual region 4 release as well.

Of course I'm no authority on this so if others have more accurate information, please feel free to speak up.

I'm in the States and I bought the 2nd Goodies collection, "at last a second helping" ... it's coded Region 2 (for the UK) and I have a hard time running it on my DVD player.
Does anyone in the UK want to trade me for a Region 1 version of this collection?? Eg you have the collection on DVD coded Region 1 for the United States..??
Please help... I just discovered this series thanks to my awesome hubby and I loooooooooooove the Goodies. <HUGS>
