Subject:  Barry Cryer doing well after hip operation

As some of you may have heard, "I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue" regular and friend of The Goodies Barry Cryer sustained a hip fracture after a fall last week.  Chortle relayed this news from Barry's son, Bob:

Barry Cryer undergoes hip operation
'All is fine,' says comic's son

Barry Cryer has successfully undergone his hip operation.

The 83-year-old comic has had a pin put into the bone to fix a fracture sustained after a fall.

Cryer’s son Bob posted the news on Instagram, saying: ‘Just got off the phone with a slightly woozy veteran entertainer post op. All is well - "just" a pin, no replacement.’

He added: ‘As Dad’s damaged his hip, I’m sorry to say that it’s now a veritable ocean of gags for the foreseeable. Buckle up! I expect him to be up to two parrot jokes by Monday.’

The comic had been forced to cancel his show Strictly Come Joking – the tour show he performs with I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue pianist Colin Sell – in Horsham, Surrey, earlier this week because of the injury.

Cryer began his career in university revue in Leeds, where he was spotted by a London agent. He cut his teeth at the legendary Windmill Theatre and started writing for Danny La Rue – until David Frost invited him to join the writing roster on The Frost Report.

He has written gags for some of the biggest names in comedy, including Morecambe and Wise, Tommy Cooper Dave Allen, Les Dawson, Bob Hope, George Burns, the Two Ronnies, Kenny Everett, Billy Connolly, Jasper Carrott and even Richard Pryor.

Cryer recently made a Sky Arts programme, Comedy Legends, about the stars he has worked with, which has already been commissioned for a second series.

In September he was  given a  lifetime achievement award by  the British Music Hall Society.

I'm afraid we don't have an address for sending well wishes other than to suggest posting to either Barry's or Bob's Twitter feed: @barrycryer80 ‏ and @bobbicee , respectively.
